Quality check: When is a second-hand coupler safe?

Every coupler at CETRAC undergoes a manual functional test:

1. Thread integrity: We check whether the flanged nut (SW19 or SW22) can be turned easily as far as it will go. Any encrusted cement residue is removed, or the coupler is rejected.
2. Flange integrity: The retaining flanges must not be bent, in order to ensure full contact with the pipe (48.3 mm Ø).
3. Certification marks: We ensure that certifications are legible (e.g. EN 74), as these are often required for acceptance on German building sites.

Second-hand couplers will last almost forever if looked after properly. We recommend that our customers briefly treat the threads with a biodegradable spray oil after purchase. This saves valuable time during assembly on site and protects the tools (ratchet/impact wrench).

Yes. Scaffolding couplers must comply with the applicable standards depending on their intended use – the relevant standard is DIN EN 74, supplemented by DIN EN 12811 for the scaffolding as a whole. Yes, provided they do not have any cracks and the threads can withstand the required tightening torque (approx. 50 Nm) – so always check second-hand couplers for wear and cracks. At CETRAC, you will only receive goods that have been tested for functionality.
