Calculate scaffold weight: guide values for building scaffolding & transport

Below you will find the guide values for each system and component group. The quickest way to find the exact value is to use our EasyFlow scaffolding weight calculator – which works in the same way as the scaffolding area calculator: select a system, enter the area, and read off the weight and transport requirements.

The weight of your scaffolding

Note: All weights are non-binding guide figures (load class 3, bay length 2.57–3.07 m, standard decks). The figures in the parts list in your CETRAC quotation are binding. Transport: 7.5-tonne lorry ≈ 3-tonne payload · 40-tonne articulated lorry ≈ 24-tonne payload.

Approximate weights per m² and transport requirements

Guideline values per m² of scaffolded area – including frames, decks, guardrails, diagonal braces and base jacks (load class 3, standard bay dimensions):

  • Layher Blitz (steel decking): approx. 20 kg/m²
  • Layher Blitz (aluminium/heavy-duty decking): approx. 15 kg/m²
  • Layher Allround (module, steel): approx. 24 kg/m²
  • Plettac SL70: approx. 19 kg/m²
  • Hünnebeck Bosta 70/100: approx. 21 kg/m²
  • Rux Super: approx. 20 kg/m²

Calculation example: A standard detached house with 230 m² of Layher Blitz (steel) scaffolding weighs around 4.6 t – that equates to 2 × 7.5 t lorries or a small articulated lorry. The following are taken as transport guidelines: a 7.5-tonne lorry ≈ 3 tonnes payload, a 40-tonne articulated lorry ≈ 24 tonnes payload.

The breakdown by component group: vertical frames/uprights ~ 45%, scaffold decks ~ 34%, guardrails & diagonal braces ~ 13%, base spindles & small parts ~ 8% of the total weight.

All figures are indicative only – the exact weight is specified in the parts list in your quotation. You can find out how much your scaffolding will cost in the price guide: ‘How much does scaffolding cost?’, and you can work out the required area using the EasyFlow scaffolding area calculator.
