Storing scaffolding correctly: how your material stays ready for use and retains its value
Scaffolding only makes money when it’s ready for use. Incorrect storage costs twice as much: due to corrosion and damaged decks – and due to the time spent searching for items when systems are in disarray. By following a few basic rules, your equipment will retain its value for years; particularly with second-hand branded scaffolding, storage is key to its future resale value (keyword: rebuy).
The 6 rules for storing scaffolding in a way that preserves its value
- Allow for storage space: As a rule of thumb, for every 100 m² of scaffolding, you’ll need approx. 15–25 m² of storage space (stacking width approx. 1 m). Store frames upright in racks or lying flat on square timbers – never directly on the floor.
- Separate by type: Layher with Layher, Plettac with Plettac – mixed stacks result in wasted time searching every time they are used and lead to unauthorised combinations.
- Preventing corrosion: Galvanised steel can withstand rain, but standing water is harmful: store on supports, stack at a slight angle, and ensure good air circulation. Allow white rust on freshly galvanised parts to dry out in the open air.
- Protecting wooden and plastic components: Store wooden scaffolding planks and toe boards in a dry, well-ventilated place; protect plastic decking from prolonged exposure to UV light – otherwise its load-bearing capacity will be compromised.
- Organising small parts: couplers, spindles and screws in mesh boxes or on pallets, labelled by type and size. Lost small parts are the most common reason for having to buy more.
Verschleiß-Artikel.
