A protective roof protects people, traffic routes and work areas below the scaffold from falling objects, tools and the weather. Typical uses are entrances, footpaths and passages on construction sites in busy areas - for example during facade or roof work over public ground. Not without restriction: protective roofs are system-dependent. Connections, brackets and the substructure must match the scaffold system used - for example Layher, Plettac or Rux. A pedestrian protection roof primarily protects people passing under the scaffold - such as pedestrians on footpaths and at entrances - from falling parts. A weather protection roof, on the other hand, protects site operations and material beneath it from rain, snow and wind, so work can continue even in bad weather. Large spans - for example over wide entrances or passages - are bridged with lattice girders or modular supporting structures. The lattice girders take the load and transfer it into the scaffold, so even wide openings can be roofed without supports. You can get suitable lattice girders at CETRAC, inspected and from stock.
That depends on the location. If the protective roof stands over public ground - such as footpaths or roads - a special use permit from the municipality is usually required. In addition, its use often requires a risk assessment and coordination with inspectors.
