Scaffolding Couplers
Scaffolding couplers connect individual scaffold components securely with one another, forming the central basis for stability, load transfer and flexible structures in scaffolding. Whether tube-to-tube connections, angle connections or rotating solutions - couplers are essential safety components for every scaffold system.
Quality check: when is a used coupler safe?
Every coupler at CETRAC goes through a manual function check:
- Thread condition: We check that the flange nut (SW19 or SW22) can be turned easily all the way to the stop. Encrusted cement residues are removed or the coupler is rejected.
- Flap integrity: The retaining flaps must not be bent, to ensure full frictional grip on the tube (Ø 48.3 mm).
- Certification marks: We look for legible certifications (e.g. EN 74), which are often required for acceptance on German construction sites.
What matters when erecting and inspecting scaffolds is summarised in our guide Scaffold safety: permits, obligations & standards.

Maintenance tip from CETRAC
With proper care, used couplers last almost forever. We recommend that our customers briefly treat the threads with a biodegradable spray oil after purchase. This saves valuable time during assembly on site and protects your tools (ratchet/impact wrench).

FAQ - Scaffolding couplers
Scaffolding couplers connect scaffold tubes and components with a friction-locked joint and ensure stability, bracing and the exact alignment of the entire scaffold. Without them, no tube-and-coupler scaffold could be erected safely. The matching scaffold tubes are also available at CETRAC, inspected and from stock.
Yes. Depending on their use, scaffolding couplers must meet the applicable standards - DIN EN 74 is decisive, supplemented by DIN EN 12811 for the overall scaffold. All couplers offered by CETRAC are inspected and standard-compliant. More on standards and obligations in our scaffold safety guide.
Right-angle couplers connect two tubes rigidly at a 90-degree angle and transfer loads at right angles. Swivel couplers, on the other hand, allow a freely selectable angle - ideal for diagonals and special structures. We stock both variants, inspected; you will find an overview under scaffolding couplers.
With classic tube couplers (48.3 mm) this is often no problem; with system-specific couplers it depends on the manufacturer. Tube diameter and design are decisive. If in doubt, we will check compatibility for you in advance - our scaffolding components range provides an overview.
You need heavy-duty couplers when higher static loads occur or components need additional reinforcement - for example with shoring scaffolds, large cantilevers or heavy attachments. They transfer considerably higher forces than standard couplers. You will find suitable variants under scaffolding couplers.
Yes, provided they show no cracks and the threads hold the required tightening torque (approx. 50 Nm) - so always check used couplers for wear and cracks. At CETRAC you only receive function-tested goods.
In Germany, SW19 and SW22 are standard. Check your existing tools for correct assembly. We stock both variants in large quantities at our warehouse in Leipzig.
Yes, especially screws or securing elements can be replaced under intensive use - suitable spare parts extend the service life of your couplers.
You can always find suitable spare parts and couplers under scaffolding couplers - individually or as a set.
As we currently have over 15,000 couplers (right-angle couplers, swivel couplers, etc.) in stock, we offer attractive graduated prices for pallet-cage quantities. Just get in touch!
