Frame Scaffold vs. Modular Scaffold: Which System Gives You the Best Return?
When planning a construction site, one question quickly arises: Which scaffolding system is the right one – frame scaffold or modular scaffold?
The differences are more pronounced than many think. While frame scaffolds are designed primarily for facades, modular scaffolds shine with maximum flexibility in demanding construction and industrial environments.
What is a frame scaffold
A frame scaffold – as this system is called – consists of pre-assembled vertical frames complemented by ledgers, decks and guardrails.
It is one of the most frequently used scaffolding systems in Germany.
Typical areas of use
- Facade renovation
- Insulation work
- New build / shell construction
- Standardised surfaces without special geometries
- Painting and plastering work
Properties of a frame scaffold
- fixed grid dimensions (usually 2.50 m / 3.00 m)
- extremely fast assembly
- clear, repeating structure
- compatible with many common facade processes
Buying scaffolding is a long-term investment
System scaffold or modular scaffold: the differences
| Feature | System scaffold (facade scaffold) | Modular scaffold (all-round scaffold) |
|---|---|---|
| Main use | Standard facades, painting work, ETICS | Industry, churches, complex shapes, shoring scaffolds |
| Assembly time | Unbeatably fast (fixed grid) | Somewhat slower (more individual parts) |
| Flexibility | Limited to right angles | 360° connections (up to 8 connections per node) |
| Weight | Optimised for easy transport & assembly | Heavier due to solid node points |
| Price (used) | Lower entry price per m² | Higher resale value, higher investment |
Do you have a special project (bridge, industrial plant)?
Modular scaffolds are without alternative here. We currently have over 50,000 parts of Allround-compatible material in stock.
What is a modular scaffold
A modular scaffold consists of standards and ledgers that can be connected variably at defined node points (rosettes).
It is the most flexible scaffolding system on the market and is frequently used in industrial and technical environments. Perfect for irregular building structures and special technical solutions.
Typical areas of use
- Industrial plants
- Refineries
- Churches, towers, round buildings
- Stage construction & event technology
- Interiors with offsets or height differences
Properties of a modular scaffold
- variable angles
- freely selectable height spacings
- complex 3D structures possible
- high load-bearing capacity in technical assemblies
Which scaffold is right for your project?
If you want to work fast, straight and efficiently → Frame scaffold
Perfect for facades, standard projects and large working areas.
If you need to build complex, individual or technically demanding structures → Modular scaffold
Unbeatable for curves, industrial plants, interiors or special constructions.
