What is the fundamental difference between a frame scaffold and a modular scaffold?

The main difference lies in the structure: the frame scaffold consists of fixed vertical frames, which makes assembly on straight facades extremely fast. The modular scaffold, on the other hand, uses individual standards with perforated discs (rosettes) as node points. This makes it flexible in all directions, so it can be adapted perfectly to complex building shapes (curves, projections).

Which scaffold is the better choice for a classic single-family house?

For standard facade work such as painting, roofing or thermal insulation (ETICS), the frame scaffold is almost always the better choice. It is lighter, consists of fewer individual parts and can be erected much faster, saving you valuable working time.

Can I combine components from frame and modular scaffolds?

Only to a limited extent. While some decks or accessories (such as base jacks or couplers) can be identical in both systems, the load-bearing structures (frames vs. standards/ledgers) are fundamentally different. However, there are special adapters from manufacturers such as Layher to connect both worlds safely. We are happy to advise you on what fits together in your case.

Why is a modular scaffold more expensive to buy?

A modular scaffold is more material-intensive. The node points (rosettes) and the higher flexibility require a more solid design for extremely high load capacities. As it is indispensable in special construction and industry, it also has a very high resale value.

Which system is faster to erect?

When it comes to “making metres” along a straight wall, the frame scaffold wins hands down. As the frames fix the grid dimensions, the scaffold practically erects itself. The modular scaffold requires more planning and time during assembly due to the many individual connections, but shines where the frame scaffold has to give up due to geometry.

Is a used modular scaffold as safe as a new one?

Yes, provided it is in technically sound condition. At CETRAC, every part goes through a quality inspection. As modular scaffolds are made of solid, hot-dip galvanised steel, they are extremely durable. A used brand scaffold (e.g. Layher Allround) in proper condition meets all safety standards and accident-prevention (UVV) requirements just like a new part.

Which scaffold takes up less space in transport?

Here the modular scaffold scores. As there are no bulky frames and it consists almost entirely of standards and ledgers, it can be bundled very compactly. This saves space on the lorry and in the warehouse. System scaffolds are somewhat bulkier to load due to their rigid frames.

Is buying a modular scaffold worthwhile for a small trade business?

That depends on your jobs. If you only do straight facades: no, stick with the frame scaffold. However, if you often work in industry, scaffold chimneys or build shoring scaffolds for heavy loads, the modular scaffold is an investment that quickly pays for itself thanks to its versatility.
