Narrow scaffold: solutions for tight passages, pavements and courtyards
Only 80 cm between the house wall and the property line? A standard facade scaffold no longer fits there – a narrow scaffold with a system width of 50–70 cm does. Here you will learn which width classes exist, which systems are suitable and what to watch for regarding load class and fall protection.
When a narrow scaffold is the right choice
Typical applications: tight passages between buildings, scaffolding on the pavement (remaining width for pedestrians!), courtyards, balconies, gable walls with extensions – anywhere a standard scaffold simply does not fit.
Understanding width classes: Scaffolds are divided into width classes according to DIN EN 12811 – W06 stands for deck widths from approx. 60 cm, W09 for approx. 90 cm. The common “narrow” systems are the 70 series: Plettac SL70 and Hünnebeck Bosta 70 with a system width of approx. 70–74 cm. Perfectly sufficient for painting and plastering work (load class 3) – for masonry work with material storage you are better off with width class W09 and load class 4–5.
Even narrower: For individual spots under approx. 60 cm, brackets help to locally widen a narrow base scaffold – suitable scaffolding brackets and scaffolding parts are available from us, inspected and from stock.
Buying tip: Second-hand 70 series systems are widely available and inexpensive – see second-hand Plettac, second-hand Hünnebeck or go straight to the complete second-hand stock. To find out how much area you need, use the scaffolding area calculator.
